Lorinda started her hairdressing career in 1988 with Sasha International where she met her first mentor whom tought her the fundamentals of colour. She also attended Joubert Park Techinal College, where she was Student of the Year in her second and third term. After college, she started her career at Carlton Hair International in Rosebank, where her second mentor was Michael Thomas. He instilled in her the Passion for Precision Cutting. At the same time she got involved with television as the In Salon Stylist for the blockbuster soapie, Egoli.
For a few years Lorinda ventured into the marketing industry, but her passion for creativity lead her back to the trade. In 1994 she started at Dave and Johan in Rosebank and was soon headhunted by Bijan in Sandton. In 1998 she saw an opportunity in Melville and started her first salon with Larry from Bijan. In 2001 she bought out her partner and started Phree Edge Melville as well as Phree Edge Midrand. Soon Phree Edge became the In Salon Stylists for the soapie, 7de Laan (1999 to 2005). She also shared her knowledge in editorials in SARIE and Rapport-Tydskrif.
From the start, Lorinda had a passion to compete in hairshows – a passion her team shared. From 1997 to 2010 the accolades rolled in: she was a Finalist in the Hairstylist of the Year Awards as well as other categories such as Avante Garde Stylist, Men’s Stylist and Team of the Year. She also won Hairstylist of the Year, in 2005. And in 2006, her close knit team won the prestigious team event for Hairstylist of the Year, as well as the prize for the best individual hair show.
By 2001, Lorinda was known as the celebrity hairstylist and worked on different TV and theatre productions, movie sets, as well as fashion shoots for magazines and advertising catalogues. She also styled the hair for SA Fashion Week. Lorinda became the Go to Stylist in the Afrikaans music industry with her clients ranging from Eden, Rocco de Villiers, Jannie Moolman and Shine 4 .Word spread quickly, and local celebrities such as Lizz Meiring, Sandra Prinsloo and Illse Roos became part of the Phree Edge family. In 2006, Lorinda and her team became the On-Set Stylists for the live show IDOLS SA, which they are still part of.
The team of Phree Edge believe Local is lekker and sponsor some of the top South African musicians like Elvis Blue and Louise Carver. The invitations to do make-overs keep rolling in and Lorinda and her team were invited for the TV reality show, Deur Dik en Dun. They also worked on the Fiesta Awards for kykNET. Today her passion is her clients whom she says are her guests. She treats everyone that enters Phree Edge doors with open arms and makes them feel as important as stars.
